On these trips, you will travel with groups of 8 to 20 travelers, mostly from Holland and Belgium.  The guide (a logistics coordinator, not a lecturer) addresses the group in Dutch and English. These are active participants who will join in on brisk walks, hearty hikes and many will rent bikes to explore.  There are usually only 1 to 4 North American participants. Our goal is to blend the travelers and to maintain the spirit of a European style of travel. Many of our most loyal clients book our trips with Dutch groups year after year. They love the adventurous and flexible spirit of these groups.  These are our most adventurous trips. They tend to be longer and are usually more challenging than our private journeys. The Dutch guide (a logistics coordinator, not a lecturer) will address the group in both Dutch and English. You will hear more Dutch than English, but remember, these are not lecture tours. You will get all the important information. The guide provides basic assistance organizing and accommpany many activities and meals, but not all. While there are plenty of opportunities for group activities and meals, participants on these trips welcome, and should expect, a high level of independence as well.

Typical hotels are comfortable 3-star establishments. On several of these trips, we spend a day or two in remote areas that may require a willingness to “rough it”. On these days we may stay in basic or even primitive, indigenous accommodations. Roosters will crow, lights may dim, and a cold shower may be expected. These trips are great for our more active, independent minded travelers who welcome the added element, and occasional challenges of cultural immersion with the Dutch. The Dutch are very social and have a great command of English.  First-timers may find it is easier, socially, if you have a travel partner.  If you are solo, a good book will get your through moments on the bus when others are chatting in Dutch.  The group typically warms up to each other in a couple of days. These trips are single-friendly. If you request a roommate and we cannot match you, there is no additional surcharge for the single.

These are great adventures for the right kind of travelers. Many of our most loyal clients travel with the Dutch year after year.  If this description sounds fun, you will probably love these trips!  If the idea sounds daunting, if you are uncomfortable with the thought of being in the minority, if you prefer a few more upgrades or more one-on-one with the guide,  you will probably be more content on our private journeys.
