DAYS 2 & 3 – Samburu National Reserve (77 miles)
Samburu National Reserve is situated on the banks of the Uaaso Nyiro River in Kenya. This means plenty of water, trees and shade to attract wildlife like elephants, lions, giraffes and zebras from the surrounding savannah plains. Leopards are also regularly spotted (no pun intended!). The Uaaso Nyiro River's magnificent displays are the long and huge crocodiles, which exceed 20 feet from snout to tail. We will enjoy a game drive en route to our campsite. On Day 3 we will depart on a morning game drive and return to camp for lunch. In the afternoon once the temperature cools off we head out for an afternoon game drive, returning in time to prepare dinner. Breakfast, lunch, dinner.
CAMPING
DAY 4 – Thompson’s Falls (140 miles)
We will travel to Thompson’s Falls and arrive at approximately lunch time; we have the afternoon free to explore the waterfalls which are particularly spectacular during the rainy season. The falls are 245 feet high. Breakfast, lunch, dinner.
CAMPING (Thomson Falls Lodge or similar)
DAY 5 – Lake Nakuru (81 miles)
We depart for our campsite, on the Kenana Farm. We visit Lake Nakuru National Park, which is famous for the presence of up to two million flamingos, seasonally feeding on the abundant algae. The park is also well known for its leopards and, as it is a rhino sanctuary, sightings of black and white rhino are common, as well as lion and buffalo. We enjoy an included game drive into the Park. Breakfast, lunch, dinner.
CAMPING
DAYS 6 - 7 – Maasai Mara National Reserve (180 miles)
The famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve is known for its density of animals including the ‘Big Five’ and 453 species of birds. It is one of the most visited reserves in Africa. This National Reserve’s plains are predominantly open savannah, interspersed with patches of acacia woodland, and along the Mara River, riparian forest. While game viewing is excellent in the Mara all year round, the most popular time to visit is in late July into August when over one million wildebeests and hundreds of thousands of zebra migrate from the Serengeti. The dramatic river crossings are a gruesome spectacle of the survival of the fittest. We will set up camp here for two nights. On day 7 we enjoy a full day game drive. We enjoy our last night and dinner around the campfire, listening to the sounds of the open bush. Breakfast, lunch, dinner.
CAMPING (Acacia Camp or similar)
DAY 8 – Maasai Mara to Nairobi, Tour Ends (150 miles) – Depart Nairobi
We enjoy a hearty breakfast before we break down our camp and head back to Nairobi, arriving around lunchtime, where our land agent's portion of the tour ends and the other travelers will disperse. All Djoser travelers will be transferred to the airport where they will continue on their flights to the United States. Breakfast. End of services.
+ 1 Day – Arrival US
Please note: While it is our intention to adhere to the route described above, there is a certain amount of flexibility built into the itinerary and on occasion it may be necessary, or desirable to make alterations. On Day 1 of your tour, you will be advised of any amendments.
